I have been doing a lot of testing with my Savage Hunter and my sons Savage Axis rifles in 7mm-08 to try and find something that shoots well.
In my sons gun I went with the youth loads that Barnes list for their 120g TTSX bullet with an OAL of 2.735 and using IMR 4895 at 35.6g. This load shoots 3/4 of an inch at 100 yds form his Axis youth rifle.
In my rifle it has been harder to find a load up to date. I have been using Hornady 139g SST bullets loaded 0.01 of the lands. It absolutely hates Winchester 748. H380 do not do any better. Again IMR 4895 proved the powder to use as 42.4g shoots 3/4 to 1 inch at 100yds. I will be testing some Hornady 139g Interlocks next in this gun.
Now for me these are great groups as I am by no means a rifle shooter. Now that I have some base loads to work with I can try to make them better after I get plenty more practice shooting these rifles.
