I stopped by a gun store in Birmingham, AL on my way to Auburn last weekend for a wedding and picked up this asian made Mosin for an amazing deal. I think I may try to find a better stock to replace the worn out one but I don't want to mod this one out.

What kind of money were they asking for that if you don't mind me asking?

It is a type 53 with bayonet. I got it for a single large bill.

Yes, the wood is always the weak point on the type 53's. I had a long conversation with a guy who imported them, and he said the Chinese have absolutely no respect for firearms. He said they treat them like disposable commodities.

Fun guns to shoot, wear earplugs. Try stripping and refinishing the wood, replacements are available, but that is more money to spend. Clean it and have fun.
