I got a Mosin for cheap. It's a '38 Izzy m91/30. I figured I'd make it a little more useful. I got a; ati stock, cheap aim scope, timney trigger not on yet. I think it looks pretty good. I haven't shot it yet though. Still not done inletting the stock. Fun project though.

I wouldn't out the Kleenex box you might be surprised of its versatility out in the woods with no port or potties around lol..or you could just mount a rail to the side of it for a tp roll and tacticool it out proper like.

Looks nice though man. I've never had a chance to shoot one myself but it's got a nice look without the wood.

Thanks. The bolt handle was a service on epay. For $30, the guy cuts, welds and smooths the new bent bolt to clear the scope. The safety decocker ring was an extra $8 and well worth it. I'm trying to do it on the cheap, but not hack it up too badly. I was thinking of trying to do a duracoat camo paintjob, but I got some blue wonder, sorta not cold blue but warm bluing kit and I think I'm happy with it for now.

Yes they do. It's awesome! I tried it without the stock on. The trigger pull is adjustable from 1.5-5lbs, uptake is short, and the break is crisp. It installs really easy and it adds a thumb safety. Only two problems; it's $90 and you have to inlet the heck out of the stock.

Awesome rifle Gary. Cheap shooter with the surplus stuff and pretty darn accurate. Mine likes the Norma soft tips for hunting and packs some punch. The old Mauser rifles were a good bargain back in the day if you got the right caliber, but these Nagants run a close second.
You'll love it on the range.

I'm generally against sporterizing a milsurp. However it looks like it's a well thought out conversion that should be functional. If someone it going to sporterize a milsurp I like it to be at least well thought out. Good job.

How is the muzzle brake attached? Have you considered shimming the stock? The Finn's did that to their issued rifles and got better accuracy than the Russian's did with the same rifle. My Finnish M91/30 is more accurate than my Izhevsk M91/30. Of course that particular rifle in addition to having the shims it has a Tikka barrel. If you do a search for shimming the stock on a Mosin Nagant you should find a wealth of information.

The muzzle brake is from a ak74, threaded. I did consider shimming the stock, or using arcaglass to bed the stock. The stock is still not 100% fit perfect. I probably have $600 but it was little by little and I wanted to build something different. The mount is a PU style mount, like the ones the snipers used but it has 1" split rings. I think I'll probably get bedding pillars and bed the stock too. The barrel is 23", it was slugged out on the end of the barrel, so it was shortened and recrowned with a target crown.

I finally got it to the range. My first time shooting the Mosin... My first time shooting any long gun besides a .22. I shot 60 rounds and it was also my first time sighting a scope. I think I did ok. I know a few things I need to work on. Put fog-x on my range glasses. I also am working on a cheek rest because the PU mount sits so high I had to crane my neck to get proper eye relief. I also need to put some thread-locker because i noticed a couple screws working out. The recoil was not bad at all. I shot 60 rounds without a problem, no soreness or anything. I think I could have shot better seated. I know a few things I'll do different next time. Target was at 50 yds I think. I was shooting 148 grn from sporting goods store not mil-surp.

I also painted it. I wanted to do something nice like having it sent out to be dura-coated but I couldn't find time+money to do that so I decided to do my own camo paint job. I watched a video of a $50 decal kit that you can use to make a tiger-stripe pattern and I said, "I can do that!" I painted the everything OD camo, next day I took a 2" roll of automotive masking tape and ripped little strips and put them on the gun then painted it krylon camo tan. Next day again with the masking tape strips and krylon camo black. Next day I pulled all the stickers and sprayed VHT "flameproof" ceramic satin clear and let it sit for 3 days. Then I put it back together. I think for the $25 I had in the whole paint job I'm really happy. My first time trying something like this. My wife said it's the first time I touched a can of spray paint and the result was good. Lol.
