Need help identifying gun...

I have a friend who just got back from Afghanistan and picked up an old single shot pistol and asked me if I knew what it was. I have no idea but was hoping that someone on here could help figure it out. There are no markings at all but I have attached a picture.

With that much of a grip angle and the shape of everything, I'd say it homemade.

Some commands would allow you to bring back 'nonmodern weapons'(Sadly not mine)
