I can remember hearing as a kid that was 30-06 was too much for deer.
As the article suggests,I really don't think that most (99.5%) people don't benefit from a magnum cartridge. Myself included. Dangerous or really game? Sure. Deer, pigs, even elk? No. Maybe at really long ranges.

Have shot '06,.308 and .300s...what I do with the .300 is load heavys for the same ranges as the first two...for way bigger game than deer.Grew up shootin' .303 Brit. and out to 400 with 150's,no more power is needed for deer(not elk/moose)but huntin' is for fun and games anyway,so shoot what ya want....it's done around the world with everything from .22 L.R.'s on up.An old guide back home in Montana once told me..."I don't care what yur shootin'...as long as you can shoot it!..."I've known men who have trouble with the .30/30's recoil( for various reasons)but are death with big red wheels shootin' .222's,.223's,.22-250's etc.You get the picture.
