If I want to buy a mosin or whatever at a gun show do I just give the vendor a copy of my c&r and get a copy of his driver license or ffl ?

In Louisiana you don't need a C&R or an FFL to purchase a firearm at a gun show. Except with specific LGS vendors who run background checks, it's a private sale.

    Are you located in Louisiana?

If it’s a private sale, you will need the sellers name, address, and DL # for your bound book.

If it’s a FFL holder, in theory all you need is a sighed copy of your FFL & photo ID (DL) do they can log the sale in their bound book. However, it’s been my experience that many FFL dealers either don’t know what a C&R FFL is or just don’t want to fool with it and will insist on doing the 4473 & FBI check. Note: If it’s a modern firearm you will have to do the 4473 & FBI check.

If it's a private sell, it's a private sell no need to log it.

For a FFL, what dougstump said.

The real benefit of a C&R FFL is ordering online and getting it shipped to your home or picking up C&R guns out of state.

Unless the rules have changed since I got my C&R FFL in 1992, all C&R firearms in your possession must be logged however they were acquired. That includes any you acquired before you got the FFL & still have in your possession.

C&R is only useful for having items shipped to you without having to go thru an FFL.
Only items purchased under the license have to be logged. Not every arm you own.
If buying private or gun show the C&R is of no use unless you can receive a discount because of it.
Some websites will give you a discount if you mention you have a C&R
