Congrats, and welcome to the 1911 club!

I just added 1911 number eighteen to my collection. One of the joys of the 1911 is that there's an almost endless bounty of permutations and variations. I've got 1911s in seven different calibers (.22 LR, 9mm, 10mm, .45 ACP, .357 SIG, .38 Super, and .38 Special), in five different barrel lengths, etc.

You picked a fine 1911 to start with. I wouldn't worry about the sights; put a few hundred rounds through it first. You might be surprised what it's capable of.

Technically I have 2 1911's, one Puma 1911-22 ( just a copy that looks like one only) and this R/I. I plan on getting a few more and hopefully one longslide in 10mm.

Sorry that I was late to the party. Realized that a minute after I posted ...

I picked up a Nighthawk long slide 10mm from Puglia's a few years ago. It's one of my favorites, and the extra heft does a nice job of absorbing the recoil.

This is one of my two 1911s, prob my favorite. Visually stunning. The Revolution. Solid copper grips, like the Liberty Bell. And a little bit of engraving. Clear Cerakote finish for durability.

More than likely the burr is created because the mag spring/follower isn’t applying enough pressure on the slide stop. If the slide stop only moves enough for the beveled edge to enter the notch, that would definitely cause your issue.
If you can get ahold of either Wilson or McCormick mags, give them a try. Most 1911 guys have one or both and surely wouldn’t mind lending them to you.

So during tonight's festivities I managed to go out in the backyard (safely of course) and function tested the slide lock function. I had all 4 mags loaded with atleast 1 rd each. I tried 1 Metalform fully loaded, lost my train of thought when neighbor lit off a huge shell and I stopped firing without emptying that mag, 2 other Metalform mags functioned normally, but first one barely caught the slide, locked back nevertheless. The 4th mag was the factory ACT mag with 2 rds and rapid fired both and Bingo it locked back too!
Question is do I still file that burr off the slide or just leave well enough alone??

The lock back looks good to me Bam Bam. If it was my gun, I would leave it alone for now and just keep an eye on it for awhile. If it does not deform anymore after several hundred more mags, then maybe knock the bump off. Don't reshape or get into the notch at all.

And I will drop this hint one more time. Wilson Combat Mags.

OK today I got a little "schooling" by a well known and very knowledgeable member who offered to show me a few things 1911. He showed me some interesting things about the trigger mechanism of them and then he performed his magic on my gun. I needed to order some more parts too to get to my goal trigger pull weight, but it's close now. Thanks Mr D!
