If anyone here has connections with LSP Concealed Weapons section, please get them to clear something up.

Their website says NM does not honor LA permits.

NM website says they honor LA permits.

So I called the NM State Police and they told me they DO honor LA permits if the holder is a US citizen and over the age of 21.

LA needs to update their map.

I called them and the is constantly busy. I called the local Troop and they said they cannot do anything re: the concealed weapons section and I would need to call them directly.

If NM says they honor LA permits , who cares what LSP says anyway. Stop wasting your time with LSP..

I agree that if NM says they honor Louisiana permits you are good (may want to get an email to that effect or bookmark their website with that info in case you have to show it to a LEO on a stop).

We all have to remember there are only three people in the CHP office to handle all of the processing of new permits, renewals, background checks, complaints, revocations, etc. they actually do an amazing job considering they are tremendously understaffed. So please be nice to them.

A a quick hint for anyone who doesn't know---submit your application online and then drive up for pics and prints. You will get your permit in weeks as opposed to the months wait if you mail.

This thing started a few years ago when NM got a new politician and they immediately canceled reciprocity with almost all states they honored at that time. Louisiana had a written agreement though. Since NM would not honor LA, LA dropped NM and has been holding a grudge ever since. This is just my understanding of what happened, though I could be just full of bad information. As is stated above, the only entity that matters while you are in NM, IS NM.
