If your Bushy is in true A1 form then you can compete in NRA High Power Service Rifle matches with us. Both across-the-course and prone matches.
The upcoming XTC match at Palo Alto has been canceled for this month due to work being done on the berm, but you can still shoot the reduced course at Gonzales. I forget which day it is but someone will be chiming in soon with it. A short search for "high power" or "prone match" will bring up a good bit of info on here.
Get in touch with me. There is a match at Gonzales on the 4th Sunday of August (the 22nd). If you email me, I will let you know when, where and what to bring. I can supply most of the necessary equipment plus the rifle and ammo. All you will have to do is join LSA ($5) and pay your match fee (I think another $5). We will put you through a short clinic before the match and coach you through it. If you enjoy shooting rifles, you really need to check us out.
Someday we may actually end up with tactical carbine matches in this area. There will be much rejoicing on that day. Then I and others won't have to wait to drive once a year to Birmingham or Corpus Christi to enjoy this type of competition.
Welcome to Bayoushooter and competitive shooting sports.
dzelenka is your man. Louisiana Shooting Assn. has a great program just for guys in your situation. All you have to do is sign up and you won't be disappointed.
Not trying to play Johnny Law here, but m4shooter8, since you are 17, make sure you bring a parent/legal guardian to the match with you that can stay the entire time. After you are 18, I think that requirement goes away. That's a state/federal law...
