Hello all, new to the site. I registered to run some ads because LaSportsman has gotten so bad with the scammers and also you have to pay for ads now. So while I'm waiting for that to go through, I figured I'd list some ads here too and join the site. So here's my experience. Just before the Covid madness, I purchased a Ruger Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger. When I went to purchase ammo, this is when I started seeing ammo becoming scarce in all calibers. Fortunately, I came across several hundred rounds of Hornady through various online sources and purchased all I could. Then....it all disappeared. The only boxes I would see after that reached insane prices on the online auction sites...prices that no sane person would ever pay. This is now almost 4 years ago and no one is still producing 480 Ruger ammo. You can occassionaly find the boutique companies with a few 20 rnd boxes, but again at insane prices. Because I have zero interest in reloading....and componenets for .480 Ruger are nearly impossible to find...I really wonder what folks are doing when they need this caliber? Why have none of the companies brought this back to market? I've actually reached out to Hornady several times asking about this but they never replied to any of my emails. What I do is shoot to check sight in only each year then save my rounds for hunting. I just don't shoot it because I can't replace it. I cannot figure out why no one is producing this caliber when I've seen more obscure calibers currently being produced?

I’ve never heard of 480 ruger. I think what most people would do who don’t reload and don’t have easy access to the ammo would do is just buy a rifle in a more common caliber.

Personally if I had a rifle I couldn’t get ammo for I’d probably sell it along with all of the remaining ammo and brass I had for it.

If you’re dead set on keeping the gun save the brass. Enough people on here reload that I’m sure someone would be willing to help you out or even load it for you.

Even if you don't reload, you should save your brass. It has value. Others that shoot this caliber and reload are always looking for brass,etc..etc..
I don’t reload and I have buckets full of spent brass. I try to pick up all of the brass I shoot. I keep it separated and labeled. It’s not cleaned or de primed but I know one day myself or someone else is really going to appreciate having it.

It’s mainly 9mm, 45acp (large primer only), and 5.56 but I also have a handful of 38 special, 10mm, and 380 as well as a decent amount of nickel plated casings.

Yes, I agree. I had never saved my brass years back, but more recently I have started saving my higer end brass for calibers that are expensive and a higher reloading demand. I have never tossed any of the .480 ruger brass beacuse of how rare once fired brass is in that caliber. I have seen on gunbroker where .480 ruger brass is selling for well over a dollar a piece. I guess many years from now when I shoot any of mine in qty, I can sell the brass for reloading as it seems to be rarer than hens teeth. I also save my factory once fired .44 mag brass, but it's so time consuming for the little bit of money I'd get for it it's almost not worth my time.

I looked at 480 not too long ago and liked it's capabilities. If it was more available I probably would have looked for something to shoot it in. I do reload so that wouldn't be an issue, but I just don't need another ammo unicorn. I have plenty of those already, lol. Until recently, Grendel ammo and components were similarly unobtanium. Now they're just expensive. Hopefully the 480 supply improves for you.
