    There are people here that are more qualified to answer than I am, but here's my opinion:

    If you don't have a full auto gun, you don't need a three position selector.

    Seems like if you have the full auto parts, AND the weapon they fit, this meets the definition of "intent". Don't do it.

    Auto parts by themselves - OK. Semi-auto weapon by itself - OK. Just not both together.

    I know for AKM receivers if you have the 3rd axis pin hole (auto sheer axis) drilled the receiver is considered a machine gun receiver and is illegal. The rules are such that once it is a machine gun it is always a machine gun (for AK).
    Im not sure about ARs. But what I would consider is that on the off chance the wrong person notices your decoration. Your just asking for trouble. Even if it is faked they may confiscate is until they can have an expert inspect the rifle. Who knows how long that may take or if you will ever see the gun again.
