Nikon P-223, 3x32 or 3-9x40?

So I've decided on the Nikon p223 scope. This is my first 223/556 gun and don't know much about scoping them. Ive got the Sig 556 classic. I've got hunting guys telling me 3-9x40 and AR guys telling my 3x32. What about you sig 556 guys? I really like the small size (8") of the 3x32, but like the idea of bringing it in close with the 3x9. But that thing is over 12" long. What your opinions?

I had the 3x32 on my PSA AR for a while. Good clear image with fast focus switching between targets. I kinda wish I woulda kept it.
