I'm hosting two NRA classes at LSUPD's range next year. The range is located just outside of Baton Rouge. PM if you have any questions.

Tactical Shooting Instructor; April 12-16, 2010 550 dollars
The Tactical Shooting School is intended for experienced and certified firearm instructors. The basics of instructing, communication skills, use of training aids, construction of lesson plans, and other basic instructor classes are not included in this school. This school advances towards teaching the tactical use of the duty handgun, secondary handgun and long gun (patrol rifle or shotgun with slugs). Students MUST possess strong firearm handling skills prior to attending this school. The program concentrates on advanced shooting skills, use of the “safety circle” concept, pivoting and turning to fire, movement, unconventional shooting positions, two-man patrol tactics, use of the back-up handgun, use of the off-duty handgun, an extended reduced light training session and decision-making under stress. During the course of the week student teams will design a tactical course of fire, and will be responsible for developing a lesson plan and running fellow students through this course at the end of the week. (The student must have a good working knowledge of ALL the firearms he/she will be using during this school and must have successfully completed a recognized law enforcement firearm instructor school that included general methods of instruction in one of the firearm systems he/she will be using AND have successfully completed a basic operators school of some sort with the other firearm. THIS is not a basic operator school.) There will be no exceptions! Some of the certifications* that we will accept are:

    NRA Law Enforcement
State, or regional academy or POST
    Federal (FBI, DEA, FLETC, etc.)
Major manufacturer (SIGARMS, Heckler & Koch, Smith & Wesson, etc.)
*A copy of the certification must accompany the school application for the Tactical Shooting School. In addition to the above mentioned equipment, the following is ALSO necessary for this school:

Duty type law enforcement long gun - A patrol rifle (pistol or .223/5.56 Nato) caliber or 12 gauge shotgun, iron sights preferred, with a sling. (Note: a shotgun will be required to fire slugs only during this school.).
A minimum of 3 long gun magazines, (capable of holding a minimum of 20 rounds) where appropriate.
Secondary/Back-up and/or Off-duty Handgun - A secondary or off duty type handgun capable of being carried in a concealed location with an appropriate holster. Handgun may be a revolver, or other semi-automatic. Holster for off-duty handgun drills may be IWB, ankle, paddle, fanny-pack, or other suitable concealed carry holster. Holster for back-up handgun drills should be of the same type actually used on the street.
At least one magazine pouch and 3 magazines or speedloaders for this firearm are required. Duty belt and equipment are NOT suitable for back-up and off-duty exercises.
800 rounds of primary duty pistol ammunition
800 rounds of long gun ammunition (if using a shotgun then slugs are required)
50 rounds for the back-up/off-duty handgun.
An old shirt or T-shirt that may be used on a target for practical exercises.
A cover garment or vest for concealed carry range exercises.

    Handgun/Shotgun Instructor: July 26-30, 2010 550 dollars
This school compresses the handgun instructor school to 3 days and adds 2 days of shotgun instructor training. Student classroom presentations, concealed-carry training, and unconventional shooting positions are replaced with shotgun marksmanship and handling classroom presentations and range work. Shotgun drills include firing from cover, use of kneeling and prone positions, moving targets, malfunction clearing, firing on the move, and transitioning to the handgun. In addition to the above mentioned required equipment, the following are ALSO necessary for this school:

Duty-type, law enforcement 12 gauge pump or semi-auto police shotgun equipped with a sling.
900 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition.
50 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge slugs.
20 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge 00 buckshot.
    100 rounds of birdshot (#6, #8 or #9).

FYI, I have attended the NRA LE Handgun/Shotgun Instructor and Patrol Rifle Instructor Schools.

These are really quality schools. They are exceptionally appropriate for newly billeted LE firearms instructors with little experience actually instructing adults. You learn how to create lesson plans, policies, record maintenance, etc. It is more than just a shooting school. If you have ever been responsible for policy or course devlopment for a LEA, you know how important those skills are especially if you have a LEO involved shooting.

Highly recommend these class. Pretty sure you have to be LEO, MIL, or private security.
