I'm watching the NRA nascar race from Texas Motor Speedway and I do not see NRA anywhere in the graphics. Did FOX cave to pressure?

Tomorrow's the cup race, I think the NRA is just sponsoring it (not the NNS race which is tonight).

Some Senator from CT was making a big deal out of the NRA sponsorship- and the traditional post-race victory lane celebration where the winner wears a cowboy hat and fires a pair of revolvers (loaded with blanks) into the air. He said it was "insensitive" to the families of Newtown.

I hate to sound harsh- but that is some of the most lame crap I have ever heard. Newsflash, Senator Fool: The NRA didn't do it- and neither did a NASCAR driver. This is getting more than just a little ridiculous. :dunno:

I saw this and and the NASCAR response stunk. I've been following NASCAR over 35 years but over the past decade it has been loosing its luster for me. I understand their push for "diversification" with women and minorities (ie--more money if they expand their fan base using women and minority drivers) but this issue has me pissed. If that is all Higdon can say, then NASCAR is another organization bowing down to political pressure and getting away from its true fan base.

I agree, Boss. I can only wonder what Dale Sr.'s true feelings on this would have been......

I was talking about the "diversification" of NASCAR this morning. Why?

Not that I'm against anyone who likes NASCAR or any sport for that matter supporting them, but why does it seem "necessary" for them to court minorities and so forth?

I've seen them parade people out there as a grand marshal or whatever who you know don't have the slightest interest in being there to begin with. It just seems so fake.

If a certain group likes something, fine, but if they don't, why is it so important that they do?

Dale Sr., Bill France, and the like would be pissed and this wouldn't even be an issue..they would have said you don't like it, screw you and you don't have to come here or watch the damn race..The organization has become pu$#&fied as Walton and Johnson like to say. I mean, look what happened to Hamlin a few weeks back when he criticized the new car and NASCAR got on his ass and fined him for it.. WTF?? That has NEVER happened as far as I can remember...is NASCAR becoming more left and socialist too?? Or worse, communist in that they want to censor everything from the drivers? I don't have a problem with the diversification thing---Danica Patrick is one very talented chick and she's catching on pretty fast. Janet Guthrey was the next best female and while good at road racing, she couldn't hack it with NASCAR at the time. Patrick is the real deal and am glad to see her. She is a true driver.
Seeing a bunch of these hollywood clowns showing up as grand marshalls or trying to sing the National Anthem to me is sometimes insulting. Some are true fans but some are just there "for the show" and trying to garner more popularity for themselves. Ah well, my morning rant done for now, which is rare for me as I generally don't get mad about much of anything...Stay dry folks!!

I think a race is insensitive to families who have lost loved ones in auto accidents. Let's all just stop this terrible tradition of leaving our homes and participating in life. It's offensive.
