NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A federal official says scientists are concerned about a seep and possible methane near BP's busted oil well in the Gulf of Mexico

Both could be signs there are leaks in the well that's been capped off for three days.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because an announcement about the next steps had not been made yet.

The official is familiar with the spill oversight but would not clarify what is seeping near the well. The official says BP is not complying with the government's demand for more monitoring

I think it means that everyone should take a deep breath and let it out out slowly, and repeat until they calm down. We'll find out what (if anything) it means soon enough. If I were BP (glad as heck I'm not), I'd tell the commie guvment to srew off until they get it fixed. All Washington has done is to grandstand and "demand" that BP do exactly what they were going to do anyway - except to delay foreign skimmer vessels and any other cleanup efforts in order to maximize the disaster in order to hurt the energy industry and the Republican-voting Southern states and push tax & trade legislation. Sorry. Rant over.

Amen. And that is all they can do because they don't know diddly squat about well control. Or drilling them, for that matter.

If you disagree, I'm sorry you were brainwashed.

    What does this mean?

What it means is THE WELL MAY BLOW OUT AGAIN, this time outside the casing. If it does, hopefully it will be from a casing fracture above the projected intersect elevation of the relief wells currently being drilled. And not from bedrock below or outside the casing. Don't even talk that talk.

A higher probability exists now the well may be produced to reduce pressure on the formation and control the seepage.

BP's ruptured oil well leaking from top, White House says

    http://www.nola.com/news/gulf-oil-spill/index.ssf/2010/07/bps_ruptured_oil_well_leaking.html

A White House spokesman says BP's ruptured oil well is leaking at the top, along with seepage about two miles away.

Robert Gibbs also says officials are monitoring bubbles that can be seen on an underwater camera.

Leaks could mean the cap on the well has to be opened to prevent oil and gas from escaping elsewhere.

The mechanical cap on the well stopped the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday.

Why don't they connect a pipe to it and start recovering the oil, that should ease the pressure, shouldn't it?

Becuz BP will be fined by the amount of oil released....if they capture it now , in entirety, we will KNOW how much a day it dumped...if it stays capped till the bottom kill, we will never KNOW....they can say a 500 gallons a day....who can disprove
