My son is wanting to buy a new AR for killing hogs on their lease . He is looking at either .308 or .300 Blackout . Possibly going the suppressed route in the future . Any advantage to either ?

For starters, the .308 will be an AR-10 platform while the Blackout will be an AR-15.
For nocturnal work, I use an AR-15 known as Nightstalker. 300 Blackout, suppressed, subsonic, with a thermal sight. I can squeeze rounds off out of the master bathroom window without waking up the wife. I have reduced beavers in the pond without disturbing the deer nibbling on the grass nearby! The free fire zone goes out to 150 yards, with subsonic rounds range estimation and hold over/under are vital.
For a .308, my personal opinion is unless you can go subsonic why go suppressed? It will quiet it down some, but it won't be silent. OTOH, if an insurgent beaver shown up before dark, I grab the SCAR 17 with the ACOG. I reduced two weekend before last, and one last weekend.
What powder you use to make the 308 ,150 grain subsonic
Or you use a larger grain projectiles?

If it was me and the hogs were within the range of the 300BO subsonic I would go that route so I could be sneaky and would have more time to lay them out without them scattering.
If you are longer ranges and want some oomph then 308.
Or you could use the hog slaying 6.8mmSPC........
I like my Grendel, it shoots soft as a .223 or .300, but on paper has power of 308. I connected with a big boar last weekend but unfortunately my shot placement sucked and he ran into a swamp. Mine is a 20", I've seen guys on Grendel groups happy with 12.5" barrels.
My buddy runs a 458 Socom, it's flattened two big boars and an 8pt in the last 2 months
I might try a cheaper Grendal before I shell out for a Larue UU kit.
I know subs are easier on the ears, but wouldn't you want a little more ooomph out of the round and go super?
