It would be much better to post here which Mod 28 you have. Open the cylinder and you'll see a Mod 28, 28-1, 28-2, etc..
You could also post the letter and first 4 numbers of the SN

I’ll be off work this evening. I’ll post it then.

It doesn’t say model 28 under the cylinder or anywhere for that matter. It says “Highway Patrolman” on the side of the barrel. It looks like the barrel and the frame have different serial numbers neither has an s prefix.
I’m going to mark this no longer for sale until I get a little more background. Any info you could give me would be great.
    Thank you.

You don't need to research anything about the model
The 'S' prefix and 'Highway Patrolman' would indicate it was made between 1957 and 1969
    28 no dash 1957 to 1960
    28-1 1960 to 1961
    'N' serial prefix in 1969
    28-3 1961 to 1982

You don't have to post the whole serial number. Something like 'S3049xx' will be good enough to date the revolver. Just 'X' out the last 2 numbers

The SN would date your S&W at 1955. This would make sense as to why it doesn't have 'MOD 28" stamped on the yoke.
Prior to 1957, S&W used the model name such as the 'Highway Patrolman' stamped on the barrel.
Your S&W would be referred to as a pre 28 Highway Patrolman

The website, smith-wessonforum.com, would be the best place for information about your revolver. You would also get the best price estimate from this website. Don't be surprised if the estimated value tops out around $450 for a pre 28 in the Fair to Good condition that your pre 28 is in
Being a pre Mod 28 will probably not add any value. An 'S' prefix added value during the 'S' prefix buying rage. Things have cooled off since then.
