We just got a Samson 510 table. Anyone have plans for a down draft system that works well? We have a 4'x4' box fan that should give the cfm we need. Just have to figure out the skirts and ducting.

Too much maintenance. And the water splashing is a pain. If we could do submerged cutting it'd be a different story.
Actually water table is less maintenance than down draft.
no fans, no clogged filters, no loose slag & lower noise levels.
The tank is just a box with a baffle. add water, enough to submerge the baffle.
compressed air below the baffle, displaces the water, and increases the water level.
Removing the air lowers the water level. ( Hand valves / or solenoids)
A 4 sided flat bar tray, sits above the baffle. it suspends the material that is being cut. It also serves as a container to catch slag.
it is emptied whenever needed & reinstalled. Really simple. & works really well

But I suggest a a water.

Hypertherm powermax 65. Th e maintenance comes into play as it is in a college machine shop. With a down draft it won't hurt anything if it sets there for 5 months, but if it were water we'd have to drain it, or continually maintain it an keep the rust down.
One of the Hypertherm employees told me down draft is simpler to set up, maintain, and cause less problems with the table we are running. And we plan to just vent the air into our other fume extractor so no filters to worry about. It'll be a royal PITA to add a fume hood over the table.
