Porn and video games are just things to do. No different than watching TV (which these days is basically just porn without the money shot), sitting around pounding beers, etc. You can do it, or not. And you can definitely overdo it. I'd hardly blame them exclusively for anything though.

And for once, I agree with returningliberty.

As far as feeling bad for the women in porn...you do realize most of them ENJOY it right? It's not exactly forced labor.

Plus the women make like 50 times what the men make. Unless you are one of the few famous dudes out there.

Using the same thought process as this thread, doing anything other than working or studying os leading to the ruination of men. I disagree, you all know those people who made straight A's in school and had no friends. No, the straight A's didn't lead to the lack of friends, but the time and effort that it took to get them might have. I was a straight A student until high school where my averages was somewhere in the low B range. I graduated college with a 2.9. I bet you can't guess the number of times that someone has asked me what my collect GPA was. I'll help you....about three.

I agree that social skills are very important, perhaps more important than intelligence in some fields. Those poor kids who studied all the time and made straight a's and couldn't carry on a conversation with anyone other than a brick wall are not the guys that are making all the money and living the lives you, me and everyone else is envious of.

As someone stated above, internet forums are just as time consuming and capable of robbing you of your social skills as porn or gaming.

Here's a new idea - stop going around worrying about others and their bad habits until you have none of your own. So yours isn't gaming or porn, maybe it's spending hours upon hours in the reloading room. Still accomplishing the same thing.

Yep, getting along with your co-workers is a helluva lot better than knowing everything. I also cannot think of many fields where interpersonal skills are not required on some level or another.

Yep, and chances are, if you can't shrug them off enough to "get it done", you would have found something else besides that to hang yourself with. Personally, I cut out World of Warcraft when I noticed that it was hurting my studies. Graduated, and now I can play WoW again

I think it all comes down to parenting. Parents these days are too worried about themselves and not helping there kids make it thru life.

Total agreement. My view of parenting is one where I take the time for my kids to show them everything I know and make a sincere effort to make each of them a better person than I am. I am big believer of not gender-biasing them also - girls will weedeat the yard and change oil and boys will wash clothes and cook. A well-rounded person is a better citizen, employee and person in my book.

For myself, I would never let my kid play these video games they have now days. When I was a kid we would jump barrels, throw a gorilla off a platform and save a woman. Now days it is ultra realistic violence. I don't need a guy with a PHD hanging on his wall to tell me that garbage isn't healthy. And self diagnosing yourself is kind of stupid so lets skip the "I played all those games and I am fine". Total agreement with this also. I think the drive to push people to go to college is too much. Not everyone needs a degree. Everyone needs some post high school education whether it is apprenticing, joining the military, or going to a technical school but to push everyone to go get a Bachelor's is ridiculuous to me. Society will always require people to pick up the trash, flip burgers and mow the grass for which degrees are not needed. Sticking a huge student loan on someone who is going to only make $30,000/yr is crazy.

If by adolescent men you mean the revolving population as in, "at any given time in recent history the adolescent men of the time were the shitheads of our society," then I'd have to agree. Boys do alot of weird and self destructive things during that time. But if you're saying that this generation of adolescent boys are the shitheads of our society, well I guess you're right there still.

We're all a little less "hard" and "productive" than our fathers in their eyes during those years, most grow to make it up.
