How would one go about getting a copy of his own record? I was arrested for something back in high school, given diversion which terminated a week later when I joined the .mil and shipped out. I want to find out if accepting diversion for a crime I never went to court over would prevent me from getting my CCW before I apply, but I want to see if it is even on my record.

you can normally go to your local PD or SO and they will do it for you for a couple of bucks.

Does anyone know whether or not accepting some sort of diversion rather then go to court counts as a conviction and would prevent me from getting a CHP?

go see the clerk of court. they can pull it and show what the status of it is. If it shows, then they can give you the certified minutes that you need to mail with your application.

I think for diversion you must plead guilty. You will likely have to get your record expunged.

According to the clerk of courts office, my record is clear.

I would still go to see them. They might have something that is not public. BTW, it is in the court house.

go to the clerk of court
use one of their computers to look up yourself
find the COB/FOLIO/FILE # of your offense
go to the 'civil' area files, and look up said file
if you want it printed, you can then pay some $

The parish clerk of court will only have a record of charges in that particular court. You need an FBI Identification Record, often referred to as a Criminal History Record or Rap Sheet. Go to How to Request a Copy of Record

you will still need certified minutes from the clerk for CHP.
