So less than a year ago, I spontaneously bought another M&P pistol (new from Academy). Decided that I did not have any use for another, so I sold it to a close friend that really wanted it. He's not a convicted felon or anything, and it was just a cash sale. While he was at work yesterday, someone broke into his home and stole it. Left the rifle and shotgun though. He is going to report it stolen to the Sheriff, now. Will I be involved in this in any way since I purchased it new? I know that Louisiana has no registration. Just curious if I should be expecting anything.

    Thanks.

This scenario is exactly what the anti-gunners want to expose as a problem.

You would be prudent to produce a bill of sale just in case! ;)

You're not the first person to deal with this.

If anything, you may get a call or a visit.
Once you declare that you sold the gun to John down the street,
    your participation is over.

Without the serial number, there is no way to even know who the first owner was,
    not that that matters anyway.

Think about it. He reports the gun stolen. Ok. Now what....
....they magically know where the gun was purchased and it's serial number? No...

Should have known it was a waste of bandwidth to post this here. Asshats of BS.

Thanks Hitman. I found the bill of sale we did in the event that I need to offer it.

I'll provide useful info for you. Go to academy and they can look up the info for the gun by your name. That way you can have a receipt when they recover it and you can give it back to whom you sold it to. They will print out everything for you.

funny that at the time of his post, every post (except one) was legitimately answering his question.

have a bill of sale, and if you get a call at all it'll be because records show that you are the registered owner so they'll probably say "hey we found your gun dude"

    why the twisted panties?
