I have decided to change my optics and decided to go with an eotech sight with a magnifier. While talking with a coworker he said that my front sight would cause a magnifier to not focus correctly (I have a fixed front sight). Is there any truth behind this? I wouldn't think it would matter since they don't auto focus like a camera but I never had a magnifier before so I figured I would get your opinions on it.

While I do not have a EoTech, I do have a PA red dot with a magnifier and it focuses just fine with my Fixed FS. The front sight is what is out of focus on mine, but if you are using it with a RD or Holo, it does not need to be in focus.

the front sight post is too close to be in the way when using 3x magnification. If you go with an exps series you should be able to achieve a lower 1/3 co witness. I believe a 517 will also achieve a lower 1/3 as well.
