The father-in-law and I are planning on making a muley and/or elk hunt in Colorado or New Mexico this fall. Ideally, we'll enter the lottery, buy a couple of tags if we win and make some solo hunts on public land. We've been discussing playing it safe though and just visiting an outfitter who has tags to sell as a "sure thing." We're tired or planning week long trips to hunt public land only to get burned on the lottery.
That being said, has anyone made a big game hunt in CO or NM? Any luck with the lottery or a particular outfitter? Anything you'd just really like to let me know?
