Rem 870 410 Pump can it shoot 2 1/2" shells

Hi

Need some help. I recently aquired a remington 870 410 express 410 shotgun.
On the barrel it's clearly marked 3" shells!

My question is can I shoot 2 1/2 " shells as well. Gun is approx 12-15 years old

I am pretty sure that you can. The 3inch designation is just the maximum you can shoot on every shotgun I have. 2.5 should do just fine in it. If I am wrong anyone can feel free to correct me.

the 3 inch marked on the barrel just means u can shoot shells up to 3 inchs noting over

I am of the opinion that you can always shoot shorter shells. However, longer shells I would think would not chamber.

They'll chamber but the openned crimp will be in the forcing cone. That can really shoot up the pressure in the chamber.

When is the last time you tried to shoot a .452" bullet thru a .410" barrel?

I'm rather embarrassed to say that many years ago when I was about eleven or twelve I was told the 45LC and 410 were same size. It was my hunters safety instructor in Pennsylvania I believe. Now I just accepted that as truth all those years and despite knowing the diameter of 45LC I never really thought about it. Thanks for setting me straight Danny.
