    That is correct it is just a bullet. Now you could probably find some 357 factory ammo that utilizes the xtp bullet but it will be pricey.

    Though I have not brought it hunting as my main firearm, I always carry my 6" GP100 when in the woods, hunting or not. When I first bought it and before I could get dies for .357mag, I used 158grn Speer gold dot factory loads. Now I load either 158grn XTP or 158grn Winchester JSP. Like hunter mentioned, the JSP will penetrate better, especially on thicker skinned game. The XTPs work great on coyotes and bobcats since they open up fairly quickly.
