I currently have a Sprint HTC EVO which is beginning to show its age. Sprint didn't offer the iPhone when I got the EVO. I plan on upgrading soon. This Droid based phone has not been best as intuitive or easy to use as my friends iPhone seems to be. The Samsung Galaxy S 3 is cheaper, even with my upgrade than a comparable iPhone would be. I don't currently own any Apple products. I use my phone for business and use the phone as a phone a great deal. I also text and use the internet and email a lot. I have a lot of trouble with the EVO when my hands I'd the screen is damp. The phone often answers when I pull it out of ny shirt pocket, etc. I have learned to use it pretty well and have become used to it. Any advice? Thanks

    I'm not an apple fanboy.

That being said, the iPhone is more user friendly. Also the apps are much more reliable.

If you like to mess around and load your own stuff, and are a tech guy, the android shows its promise but for the average person, the iPhone will be easier to use and more reliable.

Btw, apple and android fanboys will argue all day long against people like myself and each other.

I will also admit that apple has been a bit behind, but the turn by turn navi is the last big thing to catch up.

I've been repairing phones for eleven years so i hate all brands equally. I if your happy with your evo go with the s3. Your question is like ford or chevy, fanboys are very opinionated.

I've used both and done extensive research before buying the iphone5. I am very satisfied. The droid freezes up and is a lot more hit or miss. Plus the touchscreen on iPhone is much better. On paper the galaxy looks better but for me the iPhone felt better.

Almost everything is better on the iPhone. And I'm a tech guy and still roll an iPhone but it has to be jailbroken. I just got tired of my droid having problems. Apple is way ahead of the curve in terms of technology IMO. They purposely hold out features for future models.

Thanks to all you guys. I love this site. I'm still undecided. Although I am not a techie, I have gotten used th the Droid quirks, which drive my iPhone owning friends nuts about it. One of the biggest factors in my decisions is the ability to transfer all of my information from this EVO to my new phone. I have thousands of contacts and texts with crucial information like addresses, dates of birth, court case #s (I'm an attorney), etc. I think that I will have more problems transferring this info to an iPhone. I hate losing info when I switch phones, so, at the very least, I would like to keep it to a minimum. The battery life on my EVO sucks, but with the use of a car charger and battery minder apps, I have learned to live with it.

I can use data while on phone with the iPhone 5. my battery isn't half way and I've been on it all day, iPod & tapatalk. They are really both great phones who Both have pros n cons but for me iPhone was more my cup of tea.

I waited until the i5 came out to make my decision. I decided to go with the S3. I like the size and I've never had problems with apps on droid devices like some ppl talk about. The phone I replaced was a Evo 4g that I rooted the first day I got it, replaced the stock ROM and never had a problem. I'll wait until my trial period is over then I'll do the same to the S3

Did you jail break the phone or add an external antenna? The iphone has 2 vs the GS3 having 3 - there is a physical, not software difference in the ability of the samsung to receive more data. IIRC it can go to CDMA for the voice while maintaining 4G LTE data, whereas your best case for a 5 is a software workaround that will cut the quality and speed of the data. I'm speaking with regard to Verizon, no knowledge of how other vendors are skinning other cats.

I'm not expert, but my buddy is and thats my recollection of the explanation.

RE Battery I just plugged mine up for the night, it was at 70% but I didn't use it much today, maybe 1.5 hours talk and misc text email drudge and so forth.

I bought the extra external battery charger because I'm often using my phone in remote locations where it is pumping for signal and $30 is cheap insurance.

This is only for Verizon. On ATT you can talk while texting and have been able too since at least the second iPhone.

I had the iphone 3 and 4 and honestly just got tired of everything I wanted to put on it, I had to go through Itunes and couldnt increase the memory on it. I got the S3 when it first came out and couldnt be more happy with it. Its never crashed on me or ever had any problem. Plus I got the 32gb model and also put a 32gb sd card in it, so now I have plenty of room for music and movies. At the moment I have over 28gb of music on it and 10 movies and still have 8gb of storage left (I travel and stay offshore all the time, so its nice to have something really mobile for entertainment). So now instead of having to reformat movies and stuff for iphone, I just drag and drop and there it is on the phone. The battery is decent for what I do on it, plus if the battery ever goes bad I can always replace it, without sending it off. As I said, for me I prefer the S3 but I've never tried the 5, but i'm pretty sure its just like the other ones.

My in-laws hate iPhones, so that what I got. I got a 4S and a waterproof LifeProof case about 6 months ago and like others have stated the phone far exceeds my limitations.
My simple observation is when its time to get something new...
If you dont have an iPhone:
"What do I get, do I switch to an iPhone, what else is out there, what is everyonelse using"
    If you have an iPhone:
    You get a new iPhone

That's spot on. iPhone's just cant be beat in terms of ease of use. Plus having everything synced and switching to the newest iPhone is no big deal. You plug your phone into iTunes and everything from your contacts to call history and background are put on your newest phone.

You asked, so here goes :jest:

The differences are too numerous to list here but the answer is that
android devices can do a lot more than iOS devices. Period. I don't
care who you are. Think of the differences between PCs and MACs for
example - both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses but
Windows has always been far more customizable and "loose". Why? Apple
has always been about control only letting you operate inside the
sandbox they want you to play in. Do whatever the hell you want
inside that sandbox, but you're not allowed to play with all the kids
in the other ones...they're dumb and dangerous and you don't need to
    be playing with them!1!1! :nono:

Anyway, the more time you spend with android the more differences
(improvements) you start to notice. It really is something you have
to experience yourself to appreciate how much more control you have
over your phone on android, and it would become shockingly apparent
if you were walked through some of these differences by gurus of both
devices. If i just told you "i have access to the filesystem" on
android - so what? WGAF? What does that really mean to me?

On that one point alone there are many additional "features" you gain
by having access to the filesystem. Android doesn't care what
filetype you put on your phone..it stores them like a USB jumpdrive
would. iOS can't do that. Additionally, all android apps can all
access those files as well so say you want to open a movie you copied
to your external storage card (that iphones don't have) from your pc.
On android, you can open an app that is like opening windows explorer
on a pc to browse files and folders.... from there you can browse to
that movie and tap on it and you're presented with a menu of what app
you would like to open the movie (or whatever file) with. Apple can't
do that, but that is a significant feature because some movies might
not play properly with certain movie apps. On apple, you have to open
the file from WITHIN the app you have installed, but it might not be
supported so the app won't even show you that file is there or it
won't even let you put the file on your phone. That sucks because
maybe I just wanted to put it there so i could bring it to work and
copy it to my pc or i wanted to put it on my phone and later in the
day i end up emailing that file to a friend. I can do that on
    android. Not on iOS.

On android, i can just choose which movie player out of 5 or 6 that i
might have installed that works best, or has features i prefer to use
with it like adjusting brightness and volume using touch gestures
when it's plugged into my TV via HDMI instead of having to adjust
that stuff BEFORE i start playing. You don't always need that
ability, or to use that app to play a movie, but it's there if you
want it. You're not forced to only do things one way - android is
very, very flexible and iOS is very, very closed and it "forces" you
to do things a certain way. Again, I don't care who you are on what
side of the fence - that's the truth.

Android is about freedom to do things the way you want. If you can't,
you can customize or hack or load a completely different "OS" to use
    if you want to.

iOS is about control and doing things the way apple wants you to. If
you cant do things the way you want to or it doesn't make sense to
    you, tough ****.

That is just ONE slightly more in-depth look at what you'd see on
google all day long looking for differences between the two. "Access
to the filesystem" means a lot more than just browsing your phone.
Android operates more like a PC does...again, you can browse to any
file on your PC and right-click on it and you have a menu of things
you can do with that file: copy it, move it, share it, email it,
delete it, look at it's file properties, or open it with whatever app
that can handle that type of file. Some PDFs i open with adobe some
pdfs i open with quickoffice because they do display differently
sometimes but you can do that from within the app itself like on iOS
OR you can do that from browsing your external storage card also.
Remember now, on iOS if an app doesn't support the file you want, it
will simply not be available to you no matter what you do. Android
will happily let the file sit there so you can transport it or email
it or copy it to a PC, etc... even if you can't open it on the phone
itself. You can copy an image of a MAC computer itself to your
android device if you want to or backups of iphone files..android
literally doesn't care and rightfully so.

When you carry that "integrateability" into other apps you end up
with features like being able to tap on an address in your web
browser and it will pull it up in google maps and you can call, get
turn by turn audio directions to it via car, walking, bicycling or
using public transportation. it also has a link to its website if
they have one as well as showing you reviews of it (if it's a
restaurant or something) and you can even upload a photo of the joint
from your phone straight to google if there isn't one so other people
can recognize it and find it easier.

..thats just from tapping on an address on some website. Ok so maybe
you don't want google to handle that for whatever reason - fine. If
you have more than one navigation app installed, you are presented
with a menu of apps that DO support this action to choose which
navigation program you'd like to use. You're not forced to do
anything and "live with" whatever limitations of the app you are
using has. Why is that important? Because you're accessing the app
from within the browser...you don't have to exit out of it and open
your navigation app, then copy/paste the address in it's search. Just
browse around and tap on an address on a webpage and you're
navigating to it without ever having to leave your webpage. In fact
when youre done navigating to it, the webpage will still be right
    there waiting for ya.

Yeah it would be nice if one app "did it all" but that's just not the
case for all circumstances on ANY platform. Multiple apps serving
similar functions give you more flexibility since they will have
different features within the apps themselves. Yeah you can use
wordpad to open a quick text file or you can use MS Word and pimp the
**** out of it. Same type of thing. Don't like your stock browser? Go
ahead and use google chrome on android or firefox or dolphin...you're
not stuck with apple's safari. If you use chrome on your PC you can
push data right from your PC to your phone - leaving work and are in
the middle of an epic LS2 thread? Send the page to your phone through
a click in your PC browser and it will open that exact page on your
android phone so you don't miss a beat. Want to install apps and
browse the hundreds of thousands of them on a big screen? Go ahead
and access the app market on your computer...if you find an app you
want to install, just click on it and it will push install the app on
your android phone automatically. You can do this from any browser in
the world with internet access by the way - even apple tablets can
push android apps to android phones.

Again, this is just highlighting a small section of "differences"
between the two - there are many others as well and these sorts of
small details are what sets android far above and beyond anything iOS
offers. Most people I know with android phones don't even realize
many of the features they have available to them...the more you play
around the more you go "wow it can do that?".

When you learn from an advanced android user you truly see what
they're capable of and it gets people more into their phones. Some
people don't give a **** and that's fine, but its THERE if you want
    it.

this is video 1 in a series of 5 showing differences..if you're truly
interested, watch them all. Some things are probably dated now but
you'll get a feel for what both look and feel like, if you're
    unfamiliar.

take off the chains of apple oppression - go android! :usa:
