Heard on the news that they're seizing all weapons at the hurricane evac centers in North LA.

    "it's a safe place"

You get a receipt to get it back later.

The evac centers I have been to have been nothing more than large halls full of people sleeping on cots and the floor with little in the way of security. If they are offering to secure your firearms for you I would probably rather they take it and be responsible for it then have to keep an eye on it 24/7. Of course I would keep my CCW on my person but my long guns they can have.

Edit: also they have lots of children running around. Knowing how most people are with firearms safety it's probably a good idea they offer a service to secure them for you. I wouldn't want a kid getting a hold of some irresponsible owners gun.

There was an announcement yesterday that they were not going to allow firearms on the evacuation buses. I asked the same question about the law and how could public officials do that in spite of the law. All I got were shrugs and empty looks.

Are any of you seriously riding out evac busses or staying at shelters?!?! I'm sure you can figure out why this is in place.
