Nope. Just write up a bill of sale with your name and the buyers name on it. Have both parties signatures and the serial and model number of the gun being sold also along with the date. You don't even have to do this but it's recommended. Another thing you can do is have both parties have a scan of the drivers lisence and give it to the other person and put all of the above said info on that piece of paper.

No face to face transaction are legal in Louisiana you can sell your handgun to any Louisiana resident at least 18 years of age as long as that person gives you no reason to suspect they are a felon or can not legally own firearms. If you are selling to an out of state resident they must go through an ffl. You can ship your firearm directly to their ffl without involving a local ffl, but it must go second day air or overnight. If you are selling a handgun to a resident of Louisiana and you can not meet person and have to ship it it must be shipped to an ffl.

Long gun laws are somewhat different as they can be shipped to another resident of Louisiana without involving an ffl.

Recommended by some, refused by others. I can see the point, but I try not to do anything above what the law requires.

Ok so if I meet somone in wal marts parking lot and we do a bill of sale it's legal?

You don't even NEED a bill of sale. Some people prefer one in the instance that it was used in a crime.... highly unlikely.

The one thing you NEED to know is that you can only transfer handguns to people who are from the same state as you. Across state lines has to go through a FFL. This does not apply to long guns.

Also, you can't knowingly sell to prohibited persons ie... felons or under 18 years of age.

No stranger is getting a copy of MY drivers license!

This. You can have the number but I'm not telling you where I live. Bill of Sale is not required but some think it protects them. I see nowhere in the law that requires you to know who you are selling to so I don't know what it is protection from. But as a seller you presumably will be able to show who you sold it to and as a buyer you can prove who you bought it from if it comes up stolen or something. I'm in the "don't worry about it" camp, aka "fool's paradise".
