Opinions on usefulness/necessity of these things, please. I have a SA 1911 that I bought used, and apparently the/a previous owner had put one in as it is nowhere to be found listed as a standard part in the manual I printed from the SA site. I took it to the range several times and have put a few hundred rounds through it, and when cleaning it after the last go round noted the buffer was shredding around the edges, to a point that when I tried to reassemble the edges were hanging out and catching. I removed and tossed it, but have not shot the weapon since. My main question is for those who have used or do use these things, do you feel there is/isn't any benefit to be had in using them, or is it just somebody's money-making solution to a problem that doesn't exist?

Throw em in the trash. They aren't needed on any gun and they can come apart inside the gun and cause bad things to happen. I had one installed in a Wilson I used to carry (buffer made by Wilson as well, made it seem like a good idea). Came apart and jammed me up pretty good during a range session. Scary ****.
