I can only speak to California law. In California the barrel must be at least 18" and the overall length must be at least 26"Showing my complete ignorance of shotguns here, but if I replace the stock on my shotgun with a pistol grip like this one is it still legal without needing a tax stamp and Class 3 stuff?
If the shotgun in that photo has a barrel that is 18" and the overall length is 26" or longer, it is legal in California. No tax stamp needed. In California for semi auto shot guns, you can not have an adjustable or folding stock (AR type like the one in my photo), or pistol grip without an integrated rifle type stock. A semi auto shotgun with the same configuration as the one in your photo would be illegal in California.
