Habitual parking offenders named on city's website

BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge City Court published a list on the city's website Wednesday detailing the top 100 habitual offenders who haven't paid their parking tickets. The list compiled shows some offenders have received nearly 200 tickets.

The public posting follows a News 2 investigation, which uncovered millions of dollars worth of unpaid parking tickets, are owed to the city.

"Hopefully it will draw attention to the individual owner about outstanding violations, but also the public in general," Clerk of Court Lon Norris said.

In addition to making the names public, city leaders are also discussing making changes to the city's municipal code to boot and tow vehicles parked illegally. There are also plans to possibly seize tax refunds to recoup money past due.

"Fortunately, there's already a state statute that authorizes that so we don't need prior approval," Norris said.

City leaders expect the Metro Council to take up the booting and towing issue next week.

At least $5,000 worth of unpaid tickets have been cleared after News 2 exposed this problem.

One "woman" has 32 tickets with one car, and 70-something with another. She has a great name as well.

Lots of classic names on there, but this "lady" stands out-- Estevanica. I cannot make this up.

Kizzy is a close second.

They should have listed the most common or most recent location of all the tickets, as these people are obviously parking in the same spot (or handful of spots) over and over again.

I can imagine we're not the only ones pissed off about this. Remembering the thread we had about inconsiderate parking jobs, I just wonder what "creative" solutions our fellow citizens might come up with to "persuade" these people to both A) pay their fines and B) stop getting tickets.

Heck, they shouldn't bother buying boots. Just give the guy issuing the ticket a valve stem tool and deflate all the tires...and take the caps and cores away. Obviously the scofflaws aren't industrious enough to try to cover for the loss of all 4 tires.

Bench warrant for arrest. pay all fines for release, community service. Make them park cars at sporting events for 10 events.

My sister n law is on this list, I have no pity for her. She is supposedly an adult and her actions should have consequences. The vehicle she has all the tickets on has already been repossessed and she no longer lives in BR, so maybe she will get all this cleared someday without getting more tickets.
