If I wanted to buy a thread barrel for my p226 would I need to bring it to a gun smith an have it fitted or would it just drop in?

I think (think) it would drop in. You could call sig.

You can do either. A drop-in will not have as tight of tolerances because they are made to support more guns. A fitted barrel will lock up tighter but will more then likely require gunsmithing. This is my experience
