So I've been looking at the Sig P238 and notice that they sell for $550-650 online. (Roughly $625+ after shipping/FFL)

I found that Academy has an "exclusive" model that's $480 ($522 OTD) (http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/s..._10151_10051_421723_-1?N=329211139+4294961843)

So I'm wondering what's so different about that model that makes it cheaper than the others?

I honestly don't care about all the cool designs/finishes this gun comes with. I just want it to go bang when I pull the trigger and have good sights that my horrible vision can see. Is the academy model built using cheaper parts or worst sights than the other models?

I've been trying not to "cheap out" when buying firearms I may depend on to save my life so if it's a crappy version of the pistol I'd rather spend the extra $100

From what I've read about them, there seems to be no difference than one that didn't come from Academy. Looks like the reason for the price difference is strictly because of the volume Academy moves.

Not really helping with your question, but so you know Academy puts it on sale cheaper than that.

I almost impulse bought one about 4-5 months ago I think it was $449 but may have been slightly cheaper. Also it wasn't advertised for that price in the weekly circular.

Academy is tricky, if you catch them on a good day you can find a hell of a deal. I bought a Rossi 357 for $150 one time. I've seen REM. 700 sps tacticals for $400 as well. You just have to go there often to catch the good deals.

I have a Sig P 238, I love it. I carry it every where I go, all the time. I shoot it often. Great little pistol. I don't think it matters where it comes from or what it costs, a sig is a sig is a sig. Buy it where you can get the best deal.

Not to hijack a thread, but as a former Academy firearms employee I want all of yall to know that they price match any printed advert. And if you find an item that is wrongly priced, immediately call a manager and fight for that price. Even after their recent buyout they are still completely customer oriented.

Coming from someone who may or may not be behind the counter at Academy as I type this.... ;)

There is nothing different about the ones Academy sells, other than the "exclusive" may be a particular color/grip/sight combo that only Academy sells. I know Academy also sells the one WITH a laser (I believe its laserlyte, but I'd have to look it up) for $499.99... Actually Academy sells about 4 different models/styles of the P238 for 499.99 or less. The only two in the system over $500 are the "zombie edition" and the pink one for 579.99 and 529.99
