Just picked up a new shield and when loading the magazine I noticed it was extremely stiff and hard to load from the first to the last round. Both the 7 and 8 round mags were the same.
    anyone else experience this?

I thought the same thing when I bought the Shield for my wife. It either loosened up or I just got used to it because it seems easier now than it was when new. It is still noticeably stiffer than any of my magazines. I'm still trying to get used to the trigger pull though, an Apex trigger kit is on my want list.

I don't remember if it was stiff when new, but I don't have any problems with any of my mags now. Easier to load than my full-size double stacks.

Both my 9mm and .40 had very stiff mags. But, I use the maglula and it isn't a problem anymore. In fact, I couldn't tell you if they have loosened up or not.

Mine were very stiff and difficult to load when new. After a few trips to the range they have loosened up nicely.

Thanks for the replies. At least I know I'm not the only one. Hopefully they will loosen up a bit. In the meantime I'm going to look into the Uplula loader.

Same stiff magazines with both my Shield 9mm & 40. Got the uplula and I couldn't tell you if they loosened or not. The only problem with the uplula is that its $30-$35. Just a piece of hard plastic, but it is a lifesaver.

Get an uplula it is great and works for all your handguns . I have the Shield 9 and 40 and both have very stiff springs though they are better now that I have had them a year.

I have a new shield and its very stiff. Have to slam it as hard as I can to get it to seat with a full complement of bullets in the mag

Pop the mag in 10-15 times without pressing the mag release. It smooths out.

The magazine release is used to drop the magazine and is not pressed when inserting the magazine.
