Couldn't get the head, but can anyone identify this skin? Looks like a copperhead to me, but that's only based on what I've read online.

If you have a complete skin all the way to the tip of the tail then there is an easy way to determine if it's from a venomous or non-venomous snake. Flip the skin over and take a look at the belly scales. All snakes have a single row of belly scales until the anal vent scale where it splits into a double row of scales down to the tip of the tail on non-venomous snakes.
All North American pit vipers have a single row of scales from their ass to the tip of their tale.

Not my pic, above- but I once had six of these little bastards under a sheet of plywood at my camp.....

.22 ratshot works well on them. :)

Rat (chicken snake ) look so alike in their color in my opinion . I always have to look for the shape of head to tell difference in a hurry. If you don't get a hard answer my nephew, now in his 40's , loves to catch snake in the wild with his bare hands for the thrill . I can contact him if necessary. He has been doing this since a young boy . He's very intelligent in most matters except in that situation . JMHO
