The way I understand it, most Muslim countries are third world, the ones that aren't have big oil money. The ones with big oil money don't need our help, and whey the **** would we invest money we don't have into third wold countries??? Sound like a shitty investment to me. Our country is falling apart and the government wants to spend our money to help the terroristic Islamic world. WTF????

The White House Friday highlighted a new multi-million-dollar technology fund for Muslim nations, following a pledge made by President Barack Obama in his landmark speech to the Islamic world.

The White House said the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation(OPIC) had issued a call for proposals for the fund, which will provide financing of between 25 and 150 million dollars for selected projects and funds.

The Global Technology and Innovation Fund will "catalyze and facilitate private sector investments" throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the White House said in a statement.

Eligible projects would advance economic opportunity and create jobs in areas like technology, education, telecoms, media, business services and clean technology, the White House said.

OPIC said sample projects could help foster the development of new computer technology or telecommunications businesses, or widen access to broadband Internet services.

Proposals must be submitted by the end of November, and managers of funds that make a final short list will make presentations inWashington in January.

Final selections will be announced next June.

In his speech to the Muslim world in Cairo last June, Obama argued that "education and innovation will be the currency of the 21st century" and that under-investment was rife in many Muslim nations.

As well as the fund, Obama also said he will host a summit on entrepreneurship this year to deepen ties between business leaders in the United States and Muslim communities around the world.

In his speech on June 4, Obama vowed to forge a "new beginning" for Islam and America, promising to purge years of "suspicion and discord."

In what may be one of the defining moments of his presidency, Obama laid out a new blueprint for US Middle East policy, pledged to end mistrust, forge a state for Palestinians and defuse a nuclear showdown with Iran.

It's gonna be hard bringing societies living in the bronze age into the 21st century. Many in their population have no education and no access to education. Their belief system forbids women from going to school. To them a hot shot is a high tech goat hearding tool.

    All IMO:

Most terrorists (at least the drones) come from a poor uneducated family with nothing and nothing to look forward to.

One of the big things that brings changes to a totalitarian regime are education and development. When people become educated and learn to think objectively they tend to want more liberty..... at least until they want to make a utopia :snicker:

It might be a good thing, but corruption will probably destroy it.

We funded them to stop yhe Russians. In WWII we funded communist to stop the nationalists. Welcome to global politics. Heck, we had a hard core working deal with Hussien in the '80s for oil because he was the only one willing to give us oil as the other Arab states had an embargo/caps on oil trade. We liked how he was fighting Iran so we bought his oil to fund that war. We paid for most of the weapons he used against us. Same with alot of the weapons in Afghanistan.
