Considering “light surface rust” – which is difficult to judge in the photos, what condition percentage are you using for the value?
    Thanks.

I would rather defer the the actual appraisal to a professional but
    the book I have is from 2009 and says 100% = $3000, 98% = $2700

This gun does have some light rust but has hardly been handled.
I could buff the rust away with some 0000 steel wool but
somehow I thought it would be better unmolested, like a rare old coin.
    Am I wrong?

My dad bought this gun brand new and never shot it.
He stashed it away along with several other Colts that may also be for sale in the near future.

Included in this sale but no value is listed in the book for:
    1. The original box
    2. Factory bench fire test target
    3. Factory Warranty Card
    4. Factory keychain tool
    5. Colt Factory Archive letter
The book says the Factory letter is now advisable which is costing me $75

My mother gets all proceeds from this sale.
We will not lower the asking price again but resonable offers will be considered for FTF sale vs having to ship.

It is also listed for sale elsewhere.

Thanks for kind words; it really is an excellent specimen of a premium American revelover!

    Thanks for the reply.

Like Nomad says, do not touch it with steel wool! Very light surface rust can usually be removed by applying oil, then “scrapping” the rust area with the open end edge of an empty brass case. Sometimes you can flatten the case opening for better results. Use a light brass brush on any screws. The brass will not damage the bluing. Wipe off the residue, then coat the gun with a good oil, i.e. Rem. Oil. I have restored many 1911s over the past 30+ years and this method works.

Once cleaned, the gun should easily fall within the 98%+ group and make the buyer very happy.
