Buffett (two "T"'s ....the other is lunch) was referring to those that make over a million, just over 263K people in America, and those that make over 10 Million, over 8K people In America...........it's just not enough people and wealth to make a lasting difference to me.

It's in the numbers, not in the money.

Hell no, I'd be assassinated within a month.

I'll take a cushy czar type gig though. But I never liked the word czar, maybe Lord of ________ or HNIC of _________.

Back on topic, I like simple peddler's analogy. The problem will ALWAYS be spending. If the government magically doubled its tax revenue tomorrow, they'd spend triple. Instead of giving out free cellphones to poor people they'd give out iPads.

For the record............it was not my idea.........I just ain't that smart.
    But it hits home.

The whole cell phone thing tics me off........if you are broke as a church mouse then why in the heck do you need a cell phone? None of you hommies want to talk to you, you're broke for goodness sake. Why not just a necklace with a "Call 911 I've fallen and can't fing the remote" button.

Why are a couple of you guys so downright jealous of the rich? Do you think their having money makes them evil? You're sounding very liberal/socialist with the class envy schtick.

    Dear Mr. Buffett
If you feel that your 17.4% tax rate is to low and it should be 39.9% that you paid in 1976-77 you go ahead an tell your accountant to write the check to the IRS for that amount. Nothing is stoping you. I even helped you out it would be an extra $8,972,513.79 for last year. I'm sure you will be still be paying a lower rate than he is.
P.S. You can tell your friends to do the same.

My view on personal responsibility and work ethic is counter culture to DC.

My view would be counter culture as well. I am all for helping my fellow man when he is in need, but not because he is lazy.

10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

Our problem in a nut shell is spending NOT collecting.
We are coddling those that are poor by choice in my opinion. Just two generations ago is was widely accepted that we wanted to leave our children better off then ourselves. Now many are teaching children to rise to no expectation. Making excuses from everything to Attention spans to crack addiction.
there is no clear seperation between those that truly need help and those that accept that the government's help is all they need.
I am blessed, and one of the people that pays out the highest bracket, but damn man, 35% federal, 4.5% state, sales in parish at aroung 9% and medicare and social secruity that I may never see, enough is enough.

I had (opperative word had) a kid work for me that was bright, capable and healty. When asked to take own more responsibility to get more money he looked me straight in the face and said and I qoute "no, that will cost me my WIC for my wife" and now he wonders why he has a dead in job with no benefits.

Then on top of that, I pay like 500 a month for family coverage on health insurance and total out of pocket per family is 4500. So on a sick year last year I forked out 10,500 in medical while kids of people I worked with had babies out of wedlock, with no insurance, at the same hospital my wife had our children for basically NOTHING. Walked out with free diapers from WIC to boot!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is our real life problem. PERIOD, catering to the slowest kid on the team does not make you a better team, it make you loose.

Glad to read someone else saying what's in my head as the CNN, MSNBC, many papers, and most politicians will have you believe we need to do both. I was raised to believe that credit existed only to buy a business or to buy real estate. If we didn't have the money for something, we DID NOT FREAKING BUY IT. If the govt can not afford itself, then it needs to downsize and cut services.

When I worked in a grocery store as a kid I saw firsthand WIC and food stamps. I can count on one hand the number of people who I think truly needed it. In my book, eliminate it and then people will have more money for other things - like helping charities and their own relatives.

Really, common sense dictates that you don't keep running up a bill that you cannot pay.
The government needs to balance the budget with a payback plan to get out of debt.
Do we really need to be the policemen of the world. We could probably save a trillion dollars just by eliminating fraud for the money that's already shelled out.
As far as illegal aliens are concerned, they are here and no one seems to be trying to make them leave--so lets give them work visas and tax them on their wages but they can't draw any social security or benefits off those wages until they have been working for at least 10 years and paying into the system. Fine employers that employ illegals 10,000/head for each one employed and get these undocumented workers documented.
Babies of these aliens don't get to become citizens right off the bat or if we can't change that-then deport the illegals and tell them the child can stay but you have to leave or you can leave with your child. Get our troops out of Afghanistan and have them patrolling our borders to secure them. Hell, you wouldn't even have to do that if a mine field was layed down all along the border for about a half a mile deep with signs in spanish, etc. to warn them away. Make a border zone and control egress into the country through the bridges and roads that come into the US from Mexico.
I guess we need a country wide grass roots petition to repeal Obamacare and make them change it so that Illegals, Union workers, etc don't get special differential treatment as to paying for this if its not struck down by the Supreme Court. You can tell it was all written by Dumocrats with illegals and union workers getting preferential treatment- their voting base.
You have the right to Pursue Happiness not free Govt handouts.
They want to pay Doctors the same amount whether they are Heart Specialists or family physicians.
If everyone has the same amount of money then we are all Communists.
Let's first demand that members of congress don't get preferential treatment for health care and lifetime pensions if they serve one term or a lifetime of terms. Lets limit Congress's terms to to 2. If its good enough for the President then it should be good enough for them as well.

I'm not sure where you get that from. The only thing anyone is talking about is the fact the article is stating that the super rich pay a lower percentage in taxes than the average joe.

The only people that should be "entitled" to something are our kids coming back for war tours......how about get the government out of the real estate business and give all those "dead inventory" homes to returning veterans for interest free for five years, then a low interest government loan, at least some of that would get paid back.
