Hi all. Question for the LEO's. Were running a sanctioned bike race in st. Francisville today. We had to stop a few people who were speeding through the turnarounds. Had an officer come tell us it was illegal to stop the cars from blowing through the checkpoints and turn arounds. Even though it would be dangerous tl the riders not to. Can someone cite the law for me? So that we can alter our procedure during the next race. Thanks!

Law used to state that ,in lieu of a traffic signal, a driver had to obey directions from a UNIFORMED officer. Don't know if that has changed much but I would bet my pickup that it is illegal for
an individual to run out in the street and try to stop traffic other than an emergency. And if it causes an accident are you sure you want that liability ?

Being on a gun forum another thought that needs to be said has to do with the rise in crime and the increase in carjackings. With all the gun nutz and not so gun nutz
carrying in their cars do you think it prudent to jump out in front of a car and try to stop it ?

It's not really jumping out in front of cars. The turns for the race are marked with cones and the corner guides are wearing reflective vests and waving orange flags. The race director had us letting traffic through and only stopping or slowing traffic when cars and bikes were too close on corners or turn a rounds. This was a small race (30 riders) so we opted to corner guide ourselves. For the bigger races we hire uniforms to come guide the corners.
