I just started using a safety razor and you guys have to come along and add more stuff to my head. I have my grandfathers straight razor with a chipped end. May have to bring it to Roy in Covington and get it in working order.

Not hard at all. If it is shave ready, a good strop will keep you going for quite a while. You tube has a lot of tutorials that will help. It's a lot of fun to hone them yourself also.
As my beard thickness borders on werewolf-grade, I experimented a bit with different shaving methods, etc. years ago, including the straight razor. I've shifted away from said, but still find them a close shave, and kept one. It is a pretty "no frills" razor, in that has a black bakelite handle and a sharp blade:
