After a bit of a hiatus I'm semi interested in picking up an SVT-40. I really like the idea of a semi automatic rifle I can feed my mosin ammo. So educate me on what to look for when trying to buy one and about what is a fair price for one?

I'd say $700 and up depending on the condition. There are a lot of guns I would like to have but this is one that I really want.

I paid $750 for mine. I don't really know what to tell you, they seem like well made rifles to me. You might look at the bore but then mine has a dark bore and still shoots good groups. Mine has a miss matched serial# mag and did not cycle reliably untill I tweaked the mag a little. Now it is 100% reliable.

I think this is one of those guns that will continue to rise in price. You just don't see them that often. I have held one one time at a gun show years ago and that has been it. Its got some great history with it and would look good next to a G-43 in an Eastern Front display, along with the M91 and K98!
