If Syria launches attacks into Israel, as threatened if the West attacks, Israel will attack Syria. Iran will get involved, and all this will do is infuriate the Muslim community and they will want revenge against the west. IMHO.

The most intelligent comment I've heard about this situation came from some interview on Fox News. "No where in the constitution or in international law does it say that the U.S. has to step in and stop 2 of her enemies from killing each other" I concur!

It doesn't matter which party is in The White House . I'm tired of seeing the trillions of dollars wasted and the young men come home in caskets . The US has no real friends in that part of the world .

Well, this is bad in multiple ways.

    1) Syria has gotten shipments of S-300 missile defense systems. If they are on when we go in we'll lose aircraft.
    2) Russia and China have both firmly sided with the Syrian government
    3) All we are doing is agitating a volatile situation further (nevermind that the rebels have already tried to purchase and use chemical weapons)
    4) Just WHY?

All of the economic reasons aside, the fact is... Historically, we have never sat by and allowed genocide to be ignored.

This may not be a popular sentiment but our military is a volunteer one. I have been reminded in another thread that our soldiers are not kids, children or anything other than adults. The US is notorious for their military support. And we very rarely have been called to defend our borders from immediate and direct attack. It isn't a surprise where our troops go and it isn't forced. While extremely distressing, those heros in caskets are there because they willingly, honorably gave that sacrifice to promote democracy across the world, protecting not only their country but ensuring the freedom of others. Every single one of them are there by decision. And to hear many of them speak, we have thousands of friends in the Middle East. Poor oppressed, beaten down, hopeless villages that wouldn't know politics if it slapped them across the face. But yet they live in terror every single day. I have yet to hear a single man or woman who have come back from that area of the world and not say we are doing a good thing.

Don't forget about the Darfur regions of Sudan less than 10 years ago.

The "Rape of Nanking" also comes to mind. Might be slightly pre-"Team America" mindset, but overshadowed piece of history nonetheless.

In the meantime , North Korean babies starve to death and we pretend like it doesn't happen . It may not be genocide by definition but it has the same result . Kind of hypocritical ( or should I say political ) to pick and choose who to defend .

This is being based on international law.
They broke that rule using chemical weapons. If they did.

Notice we don't mess with Egypt or North Korea.... Etc.

Have your rebel wars and civil wars. Do not break international law or threaten other nations safety.

If the US becomes entangled in that mess our media will cheer Obama on. You will not hear from Cindy Sheehan or her ilk. You will not see caskets being unloaded from airplanes. In fact if you oppose it you probably will be labeled a racist or radical. The double standard is sickening.

Didn't we lob some bombs in the recent Libyan Rebellion? Did somebody use chemical weapons there?

Saddam used them in both Halabja and the Iran/Iraq War. No air strike.

So did you miss a piece of the point or the whole damn thing?

There is a line, when crossed, certain things other countries do are considered a crime against humanity.

Muslims bombing muslims... why are we pissed off again?

I hate to be that guy but damn. It's been going on for 2,000 years and we aren't going to stop it with some harsh words and a few cruise missiles.

There's still the nettlesome question of who deployed them in Syria. Or it a matter of who cares which side used them, just bomb SOMETHING, for godsakes.

No, I didn't miss the point. Explain our total silence about chemical weapon use in the Iran Iraq war. And again in Halabja.

Yep! Not in the mood to hear about how righteous the west is when it comes to preventing genocide. If you think there isn't an international rating scale for determining which ethnic group or race of people deserve the empathy, and thus the protection and/or intervention of the west; read history! ;)
