Seven shot, 357MAG/38 Spl., two-inch barrel, stainless and blue steel. Seems to fill a void left open by Smith and Ruger for a higher capacity lightweight 357 snub in which to fire the downloaded Gold Dot and Remington 357 MAG loads. Possibly will buy one for a truck gun and woods carry.

Is there anything wrong with this gun or Taurus revolvers in general? I know their reputation is now much better than in the recent past concerning the revolver line.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Well all the "experts" say any Taurus is not worthy. To understand this you must first define "expert".

    "Ex"- Has been.

The 357 MAGNUM 135 grain short barrel Gold Dot is rated for 990 fps from a 2-inch barrel gun. That's 130 fps more than the 38 Special version, which uses the same bullet. According to one guy on the S-W Forum, that is the difference between expansion and the hollowpoint clogging and no expansion through four layers of denim over gel. I like the weight (28 oz.) and the capacity (7 rounds) as well as the compactness of this Taurus 617. Smith and Ruger simply don't build a seven round, 357 rated weapon in this K-frame size category. It seems to be an ideal platform for the downloaded 357 Speer and Remington Golden Saber rounds.
