If I were you I would rehost the smilies on a website like imgur.com or tinypic.com

If you are hotlinking from another forum, the forum owner might get upset and replace the smilie with something bad because you're using their bandwidth.

It's safe to link from actually smilie websites though like www.smiliesftw.com or http://mysmilies.com/ because those websites specialize in sharing smilies to others.

The ones you linked to are actually from another web forum (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/) and they might not take too kindly to the hotlinking. Just some food for thought :)

It's not stepping on toes or crossing lines. Just hotlinking to other websites is sometimes frowned upon and some webmasters react in very childish ways.

Some disable hotlinking and your pictures just turn into a red X.

Some change the pictures to say "No stealing bandwidth!!!" or something similar.

But some will end up turning all the pictures you hotlink into pornographic images or gore.

Doesn't happen too often but it does happen. On one forum I hotlinked some pictures from a random internet blog. A few days later all of the pictures turned into tubgirl and goatse (don't google those if you don't know what they are - very horrible images you cannot unsee) and I got banned from that forum because they thought I purposely posted those disgusting pictures.

Child-like indeed. Are we talking repulsive or hauntingly repulsive, Bosco?

What a cold, clinical description of some of the most classically disturbing internet material ever.
