    Okay, so nothing is perfect. I just had a really great weekend hunting even though I came back with nothing. I've toted out my handi, bolt actions, semi-autos in the past, but this last weekend I toted out my Winchester 1894 in .30 WCF (.30-30). It was my dad's gun and made in the same year I was born. It has a Williams Reciever Peep Sight on the rear and a brass bead on the front. The thing I really like about it is that it's short, light, and carries so well. It balances really well in the hand at the receiver..... which is the only issue as sweat from your hand gets at the bluing. The only time I felt like a strap was needed was when climbing a stand.

    So what's your favorite woods gun?

    I've got a Remington Model 600 in 350 Rem Mag.Haven't got to take a deer with it yet. Just mounted a Leupold VX-R 2-7x33 on it. Tried a few different loads but, 200 grn FTX over 61.5 grns of Win 748 shot under an inch at 100 yds and one 3 shot group that was one hole.

    I still have my marlin .30-30 lever gun from when I was younger. I need to go and get a new scope for it. the bushnell is about 20 years old.

    I was just playing with a marlin 336 at the pawn shop an hour ago, had scope(unsure what kind) on it for $329.00. Thinking of going pick it up to play with.

    IMO, get an old Redfield for it if anything. I'm going scopeless this season, but it's not that hard for me.... all of my shots are about 100 yards or less. A peep sight really makes it doable. You do loose a little of the light gathering qualities of a scope which can matter at twilight though.

    I love my 16" 94AE in .357.
    Buffalo Bore and Double tap are making some 180 and 200gr. Wide Flat Nose Gas Check Hardcast that pack a serious wallop.

    skinner is also making a peep sight for it that mount on the reciever and the front blade works fine, and the peep unscrews to open give you a ghost ring for defense type use. This is my woods gun now, as my shots are <100 yds also(when I get to go)
    They started shipping last month.

    That is ironic as heck. I grew up on my dads Marlin with a Redfield with TV view. He still uses it to this day, I had to give it back when I moved out so I bought my own.

    The first rifle I ever deer hunted with is an old ruger 44 mag carbine that was my grandfather's. It has killed many deer and they're typically DRT although I have had 1 or 2 that managed to run on will power and adrenaline alone. When I first started using it it had an old red field scope then I upgraded to 3x9 Nikon. I took the scope off this year so I can get it back in the brush where it belongs.

    Winchester 94AE Wrangler in .44mag. Knocked down a huge boar in MI with it and learned that ammo selection is everything. My friend gave me some hot loads he made for his S&W 29 4" revolver, and it cut three holes through the pig, just shaking dust off it's back, there was a 2.5" group on it's left flank and the same group on the right flank. The downside was not seing it fall from the first shot, the upside was there was little damage to the meat.

    Happy was;
    Marlin 1894CB .32H&R mag
    Winchester 94 20" .30-30Wcf
    Winchester Legacy 94 24" .357mag
    Winchester Legacy 94 20" .357mag
    Winchester Wrangler II .38-55 16"
    Winchester Wrangler .44mag
    Browning B92 20" .44mag
    Sears 45 (Marlin 336) 20" .35Rem
    Winchester 9422 .22WMR

    All time favorite;
    Browning 1885 Low-wall .260Rem........will be missed most.

    Currently have a circa 1942-1944 94 rebarreled for 26" 38-55 with full length magazine tube.

    I love taking my 1944 M1 Carbine. It's in great shape except for the stock so I don't mind taking it out and about. I've taken a couple of wild hogs with it in Georgia and many many armadillos. It's light, handy, very easy to shoulder,and point from a slung position. I love it so much I keep finding myself almost buying another in better condition.
