The quickest way to get a permit.

August 20, 2016 Took the class.
August 22, 2016 Filled out the application online and went to Baton Rouge head quarters to get finger printed.
September 13, 2016 A small brown envelope with permit inside,
A total of 24 days.

That's pretty much exactly what I did with just about the same results. Stay away from paper.

I called today 10/28, talked to a very nice lady, she started the process while I was on the phone because Im a vet, no charge.
Now I can track the real process time

De mine online in April, did the finger prints in Baton Rouge, paid the fee, still haven't got my permit.

Between class, online application, and prints in BR I received my permit in hand in less than 2 weeks. Probably an exception but it happneed.

Filed my renewal online on 9/4/16. Got a confirmation email but nothing yet to pay. It expires in 1 month.

I feel pretty dumb for doing the paper application. I wish I had known how much faster the online process would be. That said, I was able to guide my wife to the online form thanks to this forum. She took the class on a Saturday, filled on the application that night online, got finger printed and paid on Monday. Pretty sure she'll get her permit much faster than me.
