    Me, the wife and a friend all took the CHP class at Shooters USA in Bossier yesterday given by Bossier officer Russell Cox and I was very happy with it right up the point where someone, not one of us, brought up open carry and Officer Cox stated: "Open Carry IS legal BUT, if we get a man with a gun call you WILL BE ARRESTED FOR DISTURBING THE PEACE." I choked but kept my mouth shut. That wasn't the time and place to call him on it.

    The only new info I garnered was that he said you couldn't carry in a hospital because it was against the law to carry where the infirm were. This is a new one on me and one I will investigate. NOTE: I haven't found a thing supporting this!

    The other was that it was illegal to carry ANYWHERE with controlled access (metal detector and/or frisk), that being the sole criteria such as at a sporting event. Again, I want to see the cite for this one. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I thought I was up on the laws and this is the first I have heard of this. NOTE: I haven't found a thing supporting this!

    And finally, I will leave you with this gem from the class: "By having a CHP, you have given the police Probable Cause to search you!"

    Shooting required:
    3 sets, 5, 10 and 15 FEET. 5 rounds per set. Must be on the paper of a full size B-27 Shilouette target!!! Shooters with small mags only were required to fire 3 rounds per set...

    "f. two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures:
    i. live range fire shall include at a minimum 12 rounds each at 6 feet, 10 feet and 15 feet
    for a total of 36 rounds; " (LOUISIANA CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT LAWS AND ADMINISTRATIVE RULES, page 22)

    I am guessing the bold "3 rounds per set..." is due to that not meeting the 36 rounds required?

    FWIW, mine were all in the 10 ring but 2 flyers in the 9 (as the target was swinging from the muzzle blast!), most were bulls with a new gun I fired for the very first time (Glock 17... yes, I am a convert... I'm so ashamed!)

    I went to baby Dr appointment with the ms. today (Womans Hospital) and left my ruger in the car mainly because I wasn't sure...anybody have any solid information on Hospitals? I don't remember that being covered, but then again I have slept since then.

    If not posted, on Govt Property (the VA) or a state hospital, it isn't prohibited by law BUT you can bet that if seen, you WILL be escorted out as it will be against hospital policy. BTDT...

    I told the instructor (a friend) that I could probably close my eyes and hit the target throwing the gun at those distances! No one disagreed. Why so close? Seems like at least 21-25 feet would be a better test.

    Now thats a scary thought...To think she will be armed and may someday try to defend herself. I hope she stays in the Bossier City area.

    I wouldn't call it probable Cause, but

    From LSP website Concealed Handgun Permit Unit

    Duties of Permittees

    1.
    Notify the officer that he has a weapon on his person;

    2.
    Submit to a pat down;

    3.
    Allow the officer to temporarily disarm him.

    Many hospitals are teaching hospitals. If so you may run afoul of a gun free zone.

    Tulane's ER in N.O. has a sign at the ER entrance but not at the clinic side.
    University in N.O. has signs but doesn't appear to be enforced.
    Not sure about east Jeff.

    The hospital in Jackson, MS has you walk through a metal detector. Its on a med school campus though.

    I don't recall there being a "If you pass a test" qualification to my right to keep and bear arms. I'd rather a stupidly-simple test than a stringent test, but I'd prefer my rights not be infringed in the slightest.
