Ok for 600 yards and in I would say something in the 15x range on the top end would be good. For past that the 22X, 25X range on the top end. Most scope manufactures have approximately 3-15x models as well as 5-25x models. I like Mil based Reticals with Mil adjustments.

    2. Premier Heritage - XR Ret. Either the 3-15 or 5-25 http://www.premierreticles.com/products/
    3. Zeiss-Hensoldt http://www.hudisco.com/Telescopic Sight ZF 4-16x56mm.html

The bullet drop reticule is on the money out to 600yrd, tested it myself it is like cheating.

it is indestructible doesn't need battery's and the red dot on top makes up close and personal fast fast.

I'd love to be able to afford an ACOG or similar $1300 optic but can't swing that at this time, I'm looking for a reasonably priced 1X4 short/medium optic for a new FAL, and have researched the models recommended in this thread--some damn fine glass. Just wish I had the deep pockets to play in that league.

TX oil, I picked up a Konus 1.5 -5x for under $100. Great value for the price until you can afford something very nice.
Short Dot- those are what, $2K+? Maybe if I were on FBI's HRT or Seal Team 6 I might consider it. For SHTF? no... I have to say an ACOG has been mighty tempting though.

The Millet DMS 1x4 is hard to beat at under $250.00

The reports on the Elcan have been less than stellar, wandering zero, bad throw lever, heavy, expensive, etc. For that I would rather have a T-1 / 3G combo. Otherwise I would go shortdot, or if money doesn't matter, wait for the CQBSS, that thing is going to be awesome.

I have heard the same, and the one I saw was not impressive exept for the weight. However, I dud noit actually fire through it.

Excellent glass, doughnut reticule with bullet drop, illuminated, locking caps. Overall, probably the best "bang for your buck" 1-4x scope on the market.

If price were no object, then my choice would be an Eotech + 3x magnifier on a FTS mount. That gives you the most versatile optic combo out to 300 yards while retaining your ability to engage close targets. In the event that the Eotech dies/breaks, you can transition to irons immediately without having to take the optic off the rifle.
