I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 pump. I am trying to change the the pump grip to a pistol grip. There is a nut with 2 slot in it to remove the old pump grip. I know there is a special tool to remove this nut which I don't have. Can anyone tell me if there is a tool I might have in my workshop to use or what is the tool called that I need and were can I buy one?

If I understand you correctly, I came across this with my 870. Take a pair of needlenose plyers and open them and carefully unloosen it. It will take a while but works. Again, if what you are referring to is that nut to free the pump forend and if it's like the 870 try needlenoose plylers.

If you can find a flat piece of metal that fit inside and can span across both notches, that would work.

It will be a little tricky, but you could also take two flat blade screwdrivers and criss cross them inserting each blade into each notch and unscrew it that way.

You can sometimes make a reasonable tool from a piece of PVC pipe or EMT conduit and a Dremel and/or file and/or hacksaw.
