Little did those guys loading the bomb know what change their actions would bring not only for the war but, also for the future of mankind.

My understanding was the two bombs were armed on the way to the target.

This film says that took place on the ground before takeoff.

The Hiroshima bomb was a different type. Maybe that is what I am thinking of.

One of my former clients (RIP... :( ) was on the ground crew for the Hiroshima bombing. We lost him last year... I loved listening to his stories.

Do you know if he was ground crew for the a/c involved or for the ordnance?

We had a guy on the WW2 list who was on Tinian. He and his buddies thought it would be interesting to attach some JATO bottles to a Jeep and see what would happen. They all survived.

Another person on the list was RTO in a FO party supporting a Glider Infantry Battalion, which had the company portrayed in Band of Brothers. He was at the Bulge and Market Garden. I did have the opportunity to have dinner with him and conversation that lasted almost 3hr. We're fixin to get together again.

WOW...Awesome find Tom. I love these old wartime videos. I've never seen this before. So cool and super informative.

I had no idea that the "stem" was from debris being sucked up and it was separate from the mushroom. That is a GREAT video. Thanks!

By the way...the blog he mentions on the video is also very cool. There is a description of the Soviet test by Andrei Sakharov. Really interesting. http://blog.nuclearsecrecy.com/

Thanks for the reference. That looks like a very interesting site and signed up to get it via Feedly.

An account of the Castle Bravo test is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Bravo

Big difference between wet and dry fuel. ;)
